Plastic is the highest issue on the world stage, not just because it takes years to disintegrate but also because it is entering our seas and environment at a record rate.

Bens Farm Shop, Totnes which has stores in Totnes and Plymouth is taking on the battle head on.

Replacing clingfilm

An environmental and sustainable alternative to traditional clingfilm, is organic cotton and beeswax food wraps.

The products are sourced directly from Cambridge based supplier, Bee Bee wraps.

Behind the innovative new eco product is Kath Austin, who, inspired by a conversation with a friend, started experimenting in her kitchen with various formulas until she found the perfect one.

From here on the Bee Bee wrap was born.

Ethical and Sustainable Wraps

These wraps are both ethically and sustainably sourced throughout the entire, cotton grower to production, process.

The company, Bee Bee wraps, works closely with their beekeeping communities to perpetuate the pollinating population and they aim to be zero waste in evertything that Bee Bee wraps produce and do.

Cutting food waste

As long as you take good care of your wrap then there should be no need for you to dispose of the product.

However, since the wraps are made from organic cotton, beeswax, tree resin and organic jojoba oil the wraps will easily disintegrate into compost within a year.

Along with its green credentials the Bee Bee wraps are breathable meaning they won’t cause your food to sweat, reducing food waste.

There is, however, a beautiful beeswaxy scent to the wraps, however, Bee Bee wraps are confident that this does not taint your food nor do the dyes said.

Wrap Care

Looking after your wrap is important as it will ensure you get the most out of it.

Simply hand wash in cold water and ensure any food to be covered is cold before doing so.

Bee Bee Wraps are not suitable for use with microwaves, dishwashers or washing machines and you should avoid wrapping raw meat and fish in them.
